RANVILLE 2 - PETWORTH FC 1

At least the weather was good and the match was good humoured.  Goals from new signing David Chantry gave hope for the English until Jerome and Francois killed the game off with two great strikes.  Until next year.........

2010

PETWORTH FC  2  -   RANVILLE 1

A thrilling match that saw three goals.  Richie Robinson missed a hatful of chances in the opening minutes as Petworth piled on the pressure with some neat diagonal passing.  Alex Wadey had little to do in goal with Petworth pressing through midfield.  Macca scored the first with a neat shot into the net, whilst a mazy run from Quinn Murray ended with a goal, the ball shot low and hard into the corner.  After the break Petworth changed keepers, bringing on the more experienced Flapper Solly for Alex Wadey.  Ranville responded well and pressed.  A poorly given away free kick by Hacker Murray led to a nicely headed goal by the smallest Frenchman on the pitch - Phillipe Benis.  The French continued to press and a looping shot was stunningly saved by Solly (a save Wadey could only dream for).  As the minutes counted down, Ranville continued the attack until the final whistle went.  Relief and joy for Petworth and a long way home for Thierry, Philippe and their team.  A well mannered and friendly match all round.  See you in France 2011!

Ranville in France is famous for several reasons, including Pegasus Bridge from WWII and Calvados.  Most importantly, Ranville are well known for the pre and post match hospitality the locals give to Petworth FC veterans and supporters.  We have learned over the years that Calvados should generally be post match celebration only.
